The curse of the brewing bloggers strikes again!

First the bloke at Stringers had an element on his copper conk out. Then the bloke at Sharp's found the shit had hit the fan on his boiler. Now the brewing gremlins have come to me and corroded the cables on one of the heaters in my copper. I'm no electrical expert but I know they shouldn't look like this:

Watch out Hardknott Dave, look out Rob, it could be you next!

  1. Strangely enough Edd one time about a year an a half ago my boiler tripped out completely. It seemed to be overloading the house electrics completely an we had to get an electrician in. A black day for Panda & Frog home brewery. An back in the day (at Heriot Watt uni) I had little chance to home brew. Today my little plastic copper still works, but I still fear for the worst. Why edd why??!! Why does it happen, why!!?

  2. I'm sorry I missed this - this is exactly the kind of crap I'm confronted with when I take the lid off. I suspect that regular heatshrink might just slow the process, so any day now I'll be putting on some high temp flouropolymer sleeving, perhaps something like this:

You know, when I get 'round to it.

Some elements in little home brew boilers are sh*te, they're often not well sealed at the "dry" end so the insulating ceramic filler can get damp - leading to mystery RCD trips about halfway through your boil.
