Trappist wheat beer

When did this happen? And why did no one tell me?

Anyway, it's not bad, the La Trappe wheat beer. Just not what I'd expect from a Trappist brewery.

  1. I liked the entry-level thing they do (which they don't call Singel, but should), but I didn't think much of this at all.

Witte is white rather than wheat, surely. Witbier a la Hoegaarden is certainly what it tastes like.

  2. I haven't seen the 'single' either, I'm so out of touch. I'm sure witte will be white, but I'm sure it's also got wheat in it so wheat beer will do me.

  4. The older I get the less I know. I remember them when they were St Sixtus.

  5. It is a wheatbeer, not a wit: no herbs/spices. They use Saphir hops which give a citrussy flavour.

    1. Stroll on. Why do they call it 'witte', then?
