Despite my dedicated beer nerdery some things still pass me by. That 'Craft Beer' has its first $ billionaire was one of them. Last month the value of shares in Boston Beer Company owned by founder Jim Koch passed the billion dollar mark. Now you may think he must be brewing on a rather large scale to make that huge heap of money, but remember so long as he brews with passion it still counts as craft!
The full story is here, and it also raises some interesting questions about where exactly the growth in 'Craft Beer' sales is coming from.
Each one of his punters are happy to pay more for craft. kerching.
ReplyDeleteHow rich are the brewdog twats?
Considering the price they can persuade their fans, if not serious investors, to pay for shares they must be rolling in it. Though I'm pretty sure one of them was loaded to start with anyway.
DeleteWould you rather it was all spent on Budweiser? That is a serious question; would you?
ReplyDeleteEvery Buck/quid/euro spent on Sam Adams range of beers is a quid not spent on Fosters/Bud etc.
To the limited extent what other people drink concerns me I'd rather they bought beers I like to keep them available and at a reasonable price. The only Sam Adams beer I've seen is the Boston lager, which is better than Bud but not something I was hugely keen on. I much prefer another ABInBev brand, Goose Island IPA to either so I'm not quite sure what that makes my answer.
